“We have to live differently or we will die in the same old ways. Therefore I call on all Grand Mothers everywhere on the planet to rise and take your place in the leadership of the world …” (Alice Walker, excerpt from Calling All Grand Mothers).
As climate change becomes a top concern for many organizations and individuals, we will discuss how environmental and social justice can be woven into our daily interactions and integrate into how women lead. Here is a video example featuring the Prime Minister of Barbados at the Global Climate Summit of how a small island nation is making big waves. We want to start this conversation together within the conference session, share impacts from a global to local level, empower you to make a difference within your sphere, and then provide opportunities to continue learning after the conference as we put thought into action.
“Women’s participation in decision making is good for the planet: research shows a clear linkage between women’s leadership and pro environmental outcomes. For example, countries with higher proportions of women in parliament are more likely to ratify international environmental treaties, to create protected areas, and to have stricter climate change policies. Women’s leadership style also favors long-term thinking, collaboration, transparency, and inclusion.” (Dr. Marga Gual Soler)
